  1. Sectionnonefan on

Some great matches at Greeley yesterday – Fay was impressive. Errico beat up Grippi. Klein dominated Celli.

  2. Vincent Mercogliano on

Not sure what happened to Alvarado, but he didn’t wrestle yesterday. My guess would be he is either hurt or didn’t make weight. As for Rodrigues, he’s out with a concussion.

  3. Cello was not dominated. Looked better overall from neutral and was close to scoring off bottom on numerous occasions. Was riding on top and hit with a questionable stall.klein looked great though he did not dominate

  4. Can coach Rogers or other coaches on the blog offer the criteria used to seed the section tournament?

  5. Mat guy,

I believe the seeding is the same for sectionals as for any other tournament – by a points system.

  6. Thanks for the info guys. I get the win/loss differential but is considered “prestige points” and “quality wins”? Again thanks for the info.

  7. mat guy – quality wins are beating wrestlers who have placed or won in the last section tournament etc. each good wrestler has an amount of points you get if you beat them

  8. Point system with some head to head for the upper seeds. The point system has become better over the years. This past weekend at the Mahopac Division the top 3 seeds placed top 4 in every weight class except 145 where the 3 seed did not place. 11 number 1’s won, 2 number 2’s and 2 number 3’s. The point system has made the seeding process very efficient from a coaches point of view and has reduced seeding meetings to a quick check of the entries.

  9. Thanks Coach! Are prestige points awarded for this year only or would they be earned if you placed in the section tournament in the past?

  10. So if a wrestler has a head to head win against another wrestler. Is the one that won automatically seeded higer?

  11. Here with Help – filing my tax returns is easier than following the seeding instructions from this wrestling booklet.

  12. Hey Fan,

    Agreed on that.

With that being said, let’s be patient and realize that wild cards will come out a week after sectionals. Like tax preparers, the gentlemen determining the wild cards need some time to get it right.

  13. Fan, now on top of that imagine entering every result for every match that every kid on your team wrestled.

I’d honestly say that for most head coaches less than 50% of our time as coaches is spent coaching/teaching wrestling. Majority is spent dealing with administrators, data entry, doing seeding for tournaments, parent issues. More goes on behind the scenes than meets the eye.

  14. Does anyone know if they awarded Divisional MOW awards this year – I didn’t see any references to it.

  15. Just laugh, argue with everything, and pretend you know what you are doing. That’s 90% of it. Lol. Thank you for the nice compliment.
