Weekend tourney schedule

There are three local tournaments going on this weekend, but the star of the show will be at New Rochelle HS. The 50th annual Shoreline Invitational will offer plenty of intrigue, with many top Section 1 wrestlers set to collide with the best competition that they’ve seen so far this season. That’s where I’ll be on Saturday, so follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano to keep track of the action.

I also wanted to note that the current top-ranked team from Section 1 will be testing itself at the one of the most competitive tournaments in the state. North Rockland will travel to the Union Endicott Duals, which many would argue is the most difficult dual meet tournament of the year in NYS. If the Red Raiders are at risk of losing a dual this season, this is where it could happen. The tourney features many of the best teams in the state, with North Rockland being placed in a pool that includes Section 9’s Minisink Valley, Section 11’s Rocky Point and Section 5’s Hilton, which finished third in the state last season. The tournament also includes defending state champ Wantagh from Section 8 and runner-up Shenendehowa from Section 2, which means each of the top three teams from New York in 2013 will be present. I’ll be sure to post those results, as well.

  2. Vince, great job of covering sec 1 wrestling. But to say “If the Red Raiders are at risk of losing a dual this season, this is where it could happen”. Shows how far behind you are on the big picture.

You cover the journals new area as good as anyone I have ever seen, But your knowledge outside the area is mediocre at best. Stick to what you do best and don’t comment on things you lack knowledge of.
