Weekend tourney schedule

I had a tough call for which tourney to cover this weekend, but we’ve decided that I’m going be at the Michael O’Connell Memorial at Pearl River. While I could make the argument that the Mid-Hudson tournament at Arlington will feature a deeper field in nearly every weight class, that tourney will only include seven Section 1 teams. This is, after all, a blog that focuses on Section 1 wrestling, and the O’Connell will feature 12 local teams. Of course, I’ll do my best to hunt down results from each of this weekend’s tournaments, so follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano to keep track of the action.

  1. do matches really start at 10 am, or at 9 like some sites say? I’ll be traveling 90 minutes, so I’d really like to know… Anyone?

  2. Dad, it’s the best part about wrestling tournaments. Sometimes they do start on time, and sometimes they can be 2hrs later. You just never know

  3. “The Dad”
High School tourney’s tend to start on time. If your wrestler is in an out-bracket, he’ll be first up, regardless of weight class. Enjoy the moment and good luck!

    phil,
I believe that Fox Lane is off this weekend. A lot of teams that plan on going to Eastern States take a weekend off over the holidays.
    The Dad,
Coach Yorks told me that he expects wrestling to begin at 10 a.m., which is why I listed that as the start time.

  5. First NYSSWAA wrestling poll out today…not one section 1 team ranked in top 20 of either div 1 or II. That’s embarrassing. I was under the impression that Sec 1 was on the rise, oh well

  6. Is there anywhere I can get info/results for Suffern wrestling? Its easier to find results for Tuxedo’s wrestling team. They had a new website 5 yrs ago and haven’t posted anything to it in 5 yrs. Don’t see them in any tourney this weekend. c’mon

  7. Suffern is not wrestling this week end, they won the Mahwah Tournament last week end and will wrestle North Rockland at North Rockland Tuesday the 31st at 9.a.m.

  8. Nys team rankings are worth less than the paper they are printed on. Next week n. rock goes to the union endicott duals. They will be ranked higher than 20th if they wrestle how they are capable. These rankings are ones man opinions and teams that we ranked highly 5 years ago tend to stay there. It’s just like Vince’s rankings,,,,,while they are good, they aren’t gold.

  9. Anyone have any results from the mid-hudson or is there and can upload pictures of the brackets? First time in 7 years that Im missing the tournament and dying to know how its going

  10. “The Dad-
I savor every moment, JD. I’ve got this year and next, but then… what?….December 27th, 2013 at 5:36 PM”

You might get lucky- I’m chasing my kid all over New England watching him wrestle at college. Best wishes the rest of the season!!!
