I’ll be posting my breakdown of the section title picture for both divisions tomorrow, but the process of putting this preview together has made the wheels churn a bit. I don’t think that many would argue against North Rockland as a heavy favorite to repeat in Division 1, but this looks to be the most wide open field that I’ve seen in Division 2 since I started covering wrestling four years ago. That has inspired in a new poll.
The way that I see it, there are four prime candidates for a championship in D2 this season. The obvious choice is Nanuet, which has won the past three titles, but none of the top four teams were hit by graduation as hard as the Golden Knights. They lost 10 seniors—or, two-thirds of their starting lineup—which leaves the door open for a few other contenders. Putnam Valley may be the most logical choice after taking second last year, but Edgemont has also been right there in recent seasons and Pleasantville appears to be back on the rise.
