Here is this week’s press release from Iowa Style Wrestling Club:

D3 and NCWA Wrestle to Qualify For Nationals

Last weekend both D3 wrestlers and NCWA wrestlers competed in the NCAA qualifying tournament. The top three in each weight class for the D3 tournaments qualify for nationals. Next week, D1 ISW wrestlers will compete in the EIWA, CAA, ACC and Big 10 championships with the hope of qualifying for the D1 NCAA national tournament. Sam Speno (Fox Lane HS) of NC State only has to win one match at the ACC championships to qualify for nationals as just a true freshman.

NCAA Northeast Regionals (D3)

No. 2 nationally ranked Joey Grippi (Fox Lane HS) of Springfield went 4-0 beating No. 4 ranked Ces Anista of Williams in double overtime in the finals to take first place at 141 lbs.

Grippi’s teammate, No. 5 ranked Derrick Longo (Ardsley HS) went 3-1 also making it to the finals but lost to nationally ranked Collin Crowell of Roger Williams at 165 lbs.

Grippi and Longo will be competing at nationals in one week and will be looking to become D3 national champions.

Dan Graff (Arlington HS) of Oneonta went 2-3 and took sixth place at 157 lbs, unfortunately failing to qualify for nationals.

Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships (NCWA)

Mike Ahearn (Yorktown HS) who wrestles for USC took first place at 165 qualifying for nationals.

NCAA East Regions (D3)
