Hackley’s Xavier Carmona might have only taken second in the Ivy League Championships in the beginning of the month, but he rebounded on the big stage. The Hornets’ 195-pounder defeated Horace Mann’s Owen Elrifi in overtime, 2-1, on Wednesday at Long Island Lutheran to capture a New York state private school state championship.
Hackley took third as a team with Sam Welch (126), Dan Shaw (138), Andre Newland (145), Elijah Ngbokoli (152) and Andrew Muo (220) each taking second in their respective weight classes. Stephen Zak (120), Damis Yancopoulos (160) and Rodrigo Meijias (182) each took third.
