North Rockland’s Matt Caputo has been to the state tournament before, but never as a section champ. He was able to win his way in on Monday, defeating rival Colby Kash of Clarkstown North in the 138-pound final with a 7-3 decision. Caputo had lost to Kash early in the season in OT, but he really turned it on in the second half, beating Kash in their final three meetings. Now that he has his title, Caputo is focused on placing at states in his third trip to Albany. He’s ready to have some fun with it, as you can probably tell from his responses:

How many years have you been wrestling for? 11 years.
Is this your first section title? Yes.
Describe what was going through your head when the referee raised your hand after the finals: Wow that girl filling out the brackets is BAD!! (I’m pretty sure bad is a good thing)
What was the most difficult obstacle that you had to overcome this season? Dealing with crazy Jake DiMarsico in the room.
What area do you feel that you’ve improved in the most over the course of the season? Conditioning after Eastern States.
What are some of your favorite things to do outside of wrestling? Getting light, chopping down trees and training at JVH performance.
What is playing in your headphones while you get ready for a match? Rap, techno and Danza Kuduro.
What is your favorite TV show? Gangland.
Name one thing that’s interesting about you that people may not know about: I go to Mexico every year with Jake DiMarsico (AKA Jakey Fresh) and run with the bulls.
