Sectionals: Champs to be crowned today in D1

With the second day of the Division 1 championships set for today at Pace, we’ll have a brand new group of section champs by the end of the night (hopefully, at a reasonable hour). The schedule for the day is semifinals at 3 p.m., consolation semis at 4 p.m. and all finals at 6 p.m. The first, third and fifth place finals will take place simultaneously on three mats. For those planning to attend, Section 1 officials have asked me to pass along parking info: Parking will be in Lot D and Lot F. If you are coming east on Rt. 117, please use entrance 1 and follow signs to parking. If you are coming west on Rt. 117, please use entrance 2.

Of course, I’ll be at Pace all day covering the action. Be sure to check out Dan DeFrancesco’s story on the first day of D1 action at Pace, in which only five wrestlers seeded outside of the top four advanced. For the most part, the guys who we expected to reach the semis are still alive heading into today. I’ll be updating results on the blog and taking videos throughout the afternoon, so be sure to follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano for complete coverage.

Finally, I wanted to announce that I’ll be hosting a live LoHud Wrestling Chat tomorrow night at 7:30 to discuss all of the section championship madness. Be sure to join in for what should be our biggest chat of the season!

  1. The final we’ve all been waiting for De La vs Muldoon, McCarthy is underrated and barely lost to perry at divisionals, if he can overcome hofling I like his chances to make some NOISE in Albany!
