  2. Brewster goes undefeated in league play.

    I may be mistaken but…

Tom Looby becomes first Brewster Wrestling coach to win League Title since..

  3. So we know Somers won 6 of 8.

North won as many matches as South but South had an extra forfeit and bonus points.

Croton won 5 of 9 but gave up 5 forfeits.

Put Valley could have made it closer gave up 18 pts in forfeits to guys who probably won’t place at divisionals, maybe Belvu will, maybe

Congrats to north rock and suffern for wrestling a match with no forfeits.

The only points Rye scored were by forfeit

The nature of section one wrestling these days

  4. To Forfeits:
    In my opinion…

It starts at the pee-wee program.
Get as many kids onto the mats that you can for the right reasons “FUN” & instructions.
Keep them interested for as long as you can- handing them off to the Modified Coaches
(If your school hasn’t dropped that part of the program)

So that Your High School Varsity-JV coach has a deep group to work with.

( The Iowa Style, Joe Boxer & Askren Academy’s are supplements to these programs, not the reverse)

Not all are going to be All State or All section-

The amount of discipline and dedication to be a wrestler is not easy.
But as “taxpayers” supporting wrestling at our schools- its the life lessons that the coaches instill that justify it existence.

Below are upcoming youth events in our section

  5. Jack is right on the mark. This is NOT 20 years ago, its not even 10 years ago, the days of a , coach pulling a kid out of gym or in the hallway and telling him he should come out for wrestling, and that kid wrestling for 4 years (6year with modified) are much more few and far between. Most of us have seen tons of kids wrestle modfied and then quit the JV/V team, same as we’ve seen kids wrestle for a year in HS and then quit. This includes kids that could be really good, high level wrestlers. Every other sport is easier, the teams are bigger and more social. Kids want to go out friday nights, not watch their weight before a tournament. They don’t want to spend 12hrs of their saturdays in a gym. Hanging out with their friends, playing call of duty is WAY more important to most kids. You just have to start early – pee wee level, get the kids and parents hooked and they will stay through modified (if it still exists) and then HS. Then you hope a small percentage of the kids you keep will do some off season work, camps, clinics, clubs, etc…

  6. Wrestling is the toughest sport in NYS high school athletics period. As a coach recruit, recruit, recruit. The more the better. I hear you Somebody. This is the toughest sport to recruit and retain members. Just keep hammering away at the student body to get more kids. Good luck to all in the post season.

  7. RCK vs Carmel– score should be 52-21. You have 220 flipped, Fabrizio pinned Schneider.
