Hofling forfeits the final ?? Seeding move ? Don’t let Duran take the head-to-head away ?? Who was clever enough in sleepy to figure that out ?? Must have been Torres…
In the semifinal at 182, Pvilles Salzarulo pinned Larm in the first period.
Losing by fft is same as being pinned, it counts as head to head. Rule changed 3-4 years ago. Stupid strategy is worse than no strategy.
Hofling’s forfeit wasn’t a strategy, he’d been suffering from strep and asthma for weeks, could hardly make it up the stairs to the locker room as the lightweight finals were going on.
Hofling injury defaulted from finals not a forfeit. If you look at it anyway I think Perry will be 1 Duran & Hofling 2&3. Unless Hofling beats Perry at Beacon Tournament.
Looks to me like White won’t be making the cut to 160, considering he was walking around 180+ while injured. If he makes the post-season, and isn’t too out of shape, he’ll certainly stir it up at 170.
My money is on Hofling over Perry. He won’t stand a chance against Dale White if he’s 100%, though.
anyone know the rules for White ? he has to make what 6 weigh-ins to qualify? or is that one of those rules they don’t enforce for injured guys ? or is it 6 in a weight class to qualify for it? I know its %50 to qualify, if you dont have %50 (or more, is 50 ok?) in any one weight class you must wrestle the heaviest class you weighed in at. or i think i KNOW that. But do you need 6 at one class ?or 6 total so 3/4 at one weight class? how many weigh-ins does John Jay have left ? how close is White to coming back ? guess they could always try and get him into tournaments individually if he isnt already going to one. plenty next weekend, then super 16 weekend he can try and get in upstate somewhere, but divisionals dont count right ? do they have 4 duals left ? cant they get him cleared and just weigh him in ? so that he has the weigh-ins ?
You must have six weigh-ins regardless of injury, and 50% of said weigh-ins have to be at your desired weight. White is already cleared and has accepted one forfeit (at 170) but is yet to wrestle in an actual match. JJEF has three dual meets and two tournaments (excluding divisionals which doesn’t count) remaining, so if White can manage to step on the mat competitively he’ll have his six.
My only question is why is a wrestler like Jiminez who has a legit chance at a title at the Yonkers Tournament? If he is on he could upset Kash or Caputo he is much improved but he should of been tested at Eastern States! Shame on Sleepy Staff!
Sleepy staff doesn’t want to damage their wrestlers ego by having them tested at Eastern States
By the looks of things the coaches look content with wrestling low level wrestlers and getting knocked off. I remember when they had Martinez, Ewing, Rodriguez, Ortiz, Negron, Leonardo they competed at high end tournaments like Long Island, The Mid Hudson when it was the now Eastern States, the Kohl seems like Sleepy is ok with not moving on to Albany that’s a shame with a kid like Jiminez I’m sure any team would love to have him in their lineup.
cant just go to Eastern’s, Sleepy wouldn’t have gotten in. Dont know if they tried, but wouldnt get in
they have no one who placed at sectionals
Eastern States is a great experience but not the only way to a NYS place or title. It is a great way to build quality points for post season but is very tough on the body. Trivia: Who is the first section 1 wrestler to win Eastern States?
Sleepy staff taking alot of heat on here lately.
That coach has been in control there for decades, I think he knows what is best for his kids.
Was he coached by a young coach from nanuet??? Richie berkowitz
Old School you know it!!! He had a lightning bolt single.
interesting, the last ESC champion from Section 1 also from Nanuet
Like I said earlier in the rankings post, look out for Becker of Arlington to be one of the top at 113. 13-8 win over Grant who was #3 for Vince.
And also beat Taino (#3 D2) in the semis who pinned McLiverty (#1 D1) earlier in the season
Sleepy Hollow couldn’t go to Eastern States as per lack of funding from the athletic director. End of story. Let’s take the heat off of Tompkins and Torres who pulled out Hofling for illness and could barely convince the athletic director to fund the entry of six wrestlers into the Ardsley tournament. Section 1 should be a family, I don’t know when smack talking on the blogs became ‘in.’
Smack talking on blogs has been around since the first blog was put up on the web. You see one of the best things is that people can tell you how they truly feel when there are anonymous. You get more honesty with anonymity, but you don’t get sugar coated answers or comments. Blogs that aren’t anonymous tend to die and be boring, while blogs that are completely uncontrolled tend to blow up and get out of hand. There is a fine line, which I believe this blog has to being very good. There are some comments ex this kid is over rated, this kid couldn’t beat so and so if he got lucky. But we don’t see oh this kids mom sucks )&@? Or bleep so and so. A little desension is what brings us to comment and voice our opinions. Keep up the good work Vince and same for rest of the bloggers….besides my buddy old fool
If funding is tight at Sleepy , how can they afford to host divisionals?
Tompkins is one of the best coaches section 1 has seen!
Sleepy can afford to host Divisionals because it makes a profit for the school and the program, it’ll bring in money for Scarpulla. Rest assured, Jiminez, & Hofling would have been at SUNY Sulivan in a heartbeat given the oppurtunity.
I don’t think the money collected at the door goes to SH,I believe it goes to section 1 wrestling!
T-Shirts and entrance fees go to Section 1, however concessions (which rack in more than one might think) is all in Scarpulla’s pocket.
I know Chuck personally, nothing is going into his pocket! It’s obvious you have a gripe with him!
Could you be one of the wrestlers that you mentioned above???
Why is a Indian so concerned about a Horsemen? Aren’t you rivalries?
I played football with Tompkins and graduated from Sleepy!
So now your a indian let me ask you this who do you root for when they go up against each other.
Which ever team has the most of my relatives on!
