Eastern States info

With no dual meets on the schedule for today, this seems like a perfect time to fill you in on all of the details for the Eastern States Classic this weekend at Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake. I’m happy to announce that I have booked my hotel room (which was no easy task; everything within 15 miles is pretty much taken), and will be there on both Friday and Saturday to cover all of the action involving local wrestlers.

This tournament has become one of the biggest on the East Coast, attracting many of the top wrestlers from the northeast. You could argue that it’s more difficult to win a title at Eastern States than it is to win a state title because you not only have the top D1 and D2 wrestlers combined into the same tourney, but you also have quality guys competing from outside of New York state. Just look at Somers’ Dylan Realbuto. He won a state title last season, but had placed second as the ESC earlier in the year.

Tournament director Jeff Cuilty emailed me some details which should be very helpful. I’ll give you guys the schedule for both days, plus a list of local teams and notable wrestlers who will be competing. For those planning to attend, the cost is either $12 for a one day pass or $18 for both sessions. Seniors and students pay $5 for the one day pass and $10 for both sessions. For results and brackets, go to escapesports.com, but of course, I’ll be posting local results right here throughout each day. The seeds will be released to the media late Wednesday night, so stay tuned for those.

  1. Vince,

Do you have a list of participating wrestlers? This is the premier tournament before states.

  2. For him to have a list every coach with a wrestler competing would have to contact him, or he would have to contact every coach in the section to see if they had a kid competing. The brackets will be released tomorrow night, more important than a list

  3. Correction: Dylan did not place second in 2012. He was disqualified from the tournament for flagrant misconduct.

  4. Ummm, don’t be harsh on d2 because you are dead wrong. Every coach attending eastern states has the list of all wrestlers who are attending. The problem is there 86 kids attending and that’s a lot for me to write out, it’s pretty much every teams studs, nanuet and edgemont are only ones bringing full teams.

  5. Vince isn’t a coach, and stated in the post he won’t have the info until Wednesday. Plus every single kid going isn’t exactly news worthy, seeds are. His comment, to me, seemed like he felt Vince wasn’t doing his job by not having a list up. For all I know escapesports or a long island blog might have the list online, haven’t checked because I’m not concerned with who is signed up. More concerned with the brackets and who has what kind of path to placing.

  6. True but if Vince called a coach, they would have that list for him.

FYI, seeds will be out wed around 11pm, the brackets won’t be done till 5 minutes before the tournament begins. Your best bet is to check escape sports once the tournament starts if your looking for a certain unseeded wrestler, or want to see a seeded wrestlers draw before the rd of 16.

  7. ummm,

I was just curious if there was a list of local wrestlers participating . Nothing accusatory, just curiosity.
