Notebook: Yonkers showing signs of progress

This week’s notebook focuses on the strong start from the Yonkers wrestling program. Six schools in the city of Yonkers — Lincoln, Gorton, Yonkers, Saunders, Roosevelt and Riverside — came together to make one team six years ago, but coming into this season, the combined program had yet to take first at any tournament. The challenges of dealing with student athletes from so many different schools can be daunting, and it took awhile for coach Pete Vulpone to develop continuity. But with first-place tournament finishes on back-to-back weekends, it’s clear that Yonkers is moving in the right direction.

The notebook also features an item on Edgemont senior Trey Aslanian breaking the school’s all-time wins record, as well as others who achieved personal milestones in the past week. Click here to read the notebook in its entirety.
