Our first LoHud Wrestling live chat of the season is set to take place on Wednesday night beginning at 7:30. The chats got to be pretty popular last year, and I’m hoping to continue that trend. I’ll be hosting and taking all of your questions until around 9 p.m. through CoverItLive, so be sure to stop by! You’ll be able to log in simply by visiting the blog. I’ll post the link shortly before the chat begins.
There are no duals on the schedule for today, but I’ll be back on the road tomorrow for a big showdown in Rockland county. Fresh off of titles in the Section 1 Dual Meet Championships, D1 champ North Rockland will travel to take on D2 champ Nanuet. I’m also working on dual meet power rankings, which should be up before the weekend. We’ll be discussing all of that and more on Wednesday night. Spread the word!

Maybe there should be something like in football. An overall top 10. With descriptions on those top 10 regardless of school size. And for a D2 to make it they would need to be good enough to beat the large schools, not just have a better record. Then a quick top 5 of small schools, no write ups. Write ups for D2 would be pretty similar… This team can field more than 8 wrestlers so they cracked the top 5. When it comes time for tournament time than spend time on D2 write ups. Something that would be a little more work, but gives everyone something to check out. Overall top 10 with write-ups and then the league standings/rankings (w/league record)
Vince,
Some match ups to watch. 126 Feniger vs Calvano 145 Caputo vs Dillon 132 dimarsico vs Thompson
Top ten duals is pretty easy and extremely difficult. Basically its north rockland 1, and 9 teams that can beat and lose to any of the other teams depending on matchups. Nanuet would be the only d2 team on that list as edgemont lost to harrison and mamaroneck, who are just outside the top 10 IMO.

no love for Somers this year old skool? As far as I know, the Tuskers have not had a losing season since the 1967-68 season. 45 years – what an accomplishment. would be nice to get that verified.
Tough to win when a team with a full lineup is guaranteed to beat you. It’s what happens when you focus the entire program around a few kids and not all of them. They also lost a bunch of great Sr’s from last year, let’s see where they are next year before calling for heads to roll
How very sad. Not “calling for heads to roll” now old skool and I never will. What good would it do? A fair, honest, and intelligent answer by u but I can’t help pointing out that when I graduated we lost 8 seniors. 6 were starters, 7 if u counted the unlimited, who won several tournaments but was not allowed to wrestle in duals back then, off of a 14-2 team that won the UWPL (upper westchester putnam league) league title, uwpl tourney, yorktown tourney, and took 3rd out of 16 in the Divisionals, and the winning ways continued. They actually won the Divisionals the next year.
Yeah things were different back then, no one wrestled year round, now most kids that place at sectionals do. So your a first year guy or football kid, you prob are losing a lot and that’s not a recipe to want to continue. Video games, internet is killing sports especially the tough and gruelling ones. everyone used to play something or be involved in some school activity. Now lot easier to sit on couch playing call of duty with friends. A good coach is more and more valuable today and somers got rid of a good one and let the inmates run the asylum. Person to blame is whoever got rid of disanto.
i doubt if a greater percentage of hs students were participating in hs sports back then, but there were less sports to chose from and the so-called jocks played 2 or 3. My freshman year at Somers, there was only football and cross country in the fall, wrestling and basketball in the winter, and baseball and track in the spring. No soccer, lacrosse, and everything else they have now. For the most part, the football coaches played 11 guys both ways, so plenty got frustrated and dropped the sport. There were only 13 weight classes back then and 8 of the 13 my senior year also played varsity football, everybody from 138 on up as well the 126 pounder.
I am also certain that more girls are involved in sports now too. Back then at Somers they only had field hockey, basketball, and maybe softball. Girls sports have come a long way.
