Edgemont senior Daniel Kornberg has committed to wrestle for the University of Pittsburgh next season. The 220-pounder will be redshirted for this upcoming school year and is expected to add weight to potentially wrestle as a heavyweight.
Kornberg went 38-10 last season with 26 pins for the Panthers (That’s the Edgemont Panthers; Pittsburgh’s mascot is also a Panther). Pitt has won three consecutive EWL conference championships and finished the season ranked ninth in the nation.

How????no insult intended but this kid has no athleticism explosiveness or technique….goes to show you the importance of grades smh
Its not that crazy, it doesnt cost pitt anything. No scholarship, hes being redshirted with the hopes that in 4-5 years of college experience he will be a decent heavyweight. I mean grecco from Fox lane is on cornells team, he will probably never be a starter, but he is on the team and wrestling tournaments for them. If your willing to put up with a grueling d1 room and the time it takes, most all section kids could be on a d1 team. Its just tough to give up so much during college and get 5-7 matches all year.
First off, congrads to him!!!! Being recruited to join a really good wrestling team is a huge accomplishment. Honestly, Its not that crazy, I agree with old school, he is getting red shirted for developmental reasons, and honestly with a lot of hard work anything is possible in college, just as long as you are willing to put in the time and effort, which is alot. The coach obviously sees potential otherwise why just bring him on for the grades. He might not be successful in his first 2-3yrs, but you never know when he is in his 4th or 5th year he could be successful. A long shot for all american or conference but hey you never really know. It would be nice if in 5 years he becomes all american and is from section one. He just has to work harder then he has ever worked, and plus PITT is a good school too. Only time will really tell…Good luck and be ready to work!!!
I agree, lets just wait and see. Honestly it is extremely hard to make predictions on how well people will do in college just based solely on their high school career. Its gonna b really tough for him though. But hey taking a few beatings in the room only make you a better wrestler and builds character.
I think its good that another section one wrestler is wrestling for a highly ranked team! although he is not that well known and might not be extremely athletic, going through a couple years of very tough wrestling practices and partners could fix that. I mean it can only make u better
How about this, maybe he is going to Pitt because they have the program he wants to major in? Maybe academics are his main goal? Good luck kid and hit the weights hard. Pitt wrestling is no joke.
At 220 he is already a college heavyweight. Good luck at Pitt, you are going to need it.
Just because he signed there doesn’t mean he was recruited or given a scholarship.
Any one can walk on to a D1 team…...but just because they walk on doesn’t mean they will stay on though
Wrestler123 is right on. A lot of the commitments in many sports in this area (except basketball and lacrosse) are not kids getting full rides, and aren’t even kids getting recruited at times. They are walkons that Congrats to them are getting accepted to a school. And ‘committing’ to that school. I would think Speno got a scholarship and needed to be released from binghampton to be eligible at nc state
the majority of lacrosse scholarships are not full, even in this area. this is due to the fact that lacrosse, like wrestling, is an under-funded sport because of restrictions caused by title 9
Are there any Section 1 alumni who are starters on any Division 1 programs? We read about SRod all the time and I’m sure he will be but to date he hasn’t wrestled one D1 match. Also read his coach Cooperman left Illinois.
Brundage from Ossining starts at D1 Rider was an NCAA qualifier
Yo u forgot a few others frederich martin and kraft from croton r all wrestling in college frederich and martin r wrestling for Penn Tech and kraft will be wrestling for Westchester Community College
