After originally planning to wrestle at Binghamton University (where fellow Section 1 star Sam Speno is heading), Scarsdale senior and New York state runner-up Jacob Berkowitz has decided to change his decision to Northwestern University. A recent coaching change at Binghamton convinced Berkowitz to keep his options open, and he ultimately decided on Northwestern.
Things are a bit crazy recently with the baseball postseason getting underway (for those who are interested, I’ve taken over the LoHud Baseball beat this season), but I may do a story soon on Berko’s latest decision. He is expected to wrestle at 184 pounds at the collegiate level.
UPDATE: Apparently, Speno has also decided to attend another school due to Binghamton’s coaching change. The 2011 New York state runner-up will be wrestling at NC State. Apologies to Sam for the mix up, but I didn’t hear about it until after I heard about Berko.

I am pretty sure Speno will not be going to Binghamton.
Speno is following the Binghamton coach to North Carolina State.
Speno WILL be attending NC State next year. He was released a month and half ago by Binghamton.
Bad move by Berko. If he is going for the education, it is a great decision but I just hope he faces reality in terms of athletics in that he will not even sniff the line-up as a wrestler in their program.
^ How is that a bad move? He will be working with an amazing program and surrounded in a hard working environment both on and off the mat. Everyone doubted him 2 years ago for the section 1 title but he won. Everyone doubted him this year that he would place at states but he beat the number 1 seed (and an all-american wrestler) and took 2nd in NYS. He will certainly be making the Northwestern line up in the future and will prove everyone wrong again for a third time.
Caa vs big ten not even close. As rc said great move for after college, bad move for wrestling in college.

Big step up for 2 Section 1 kids. Best of luck to both and hope to see good things down the road.
