Seniors vying to go out on top
My feature story from today’s paper focuses a few seniors from around the section who have come close to winning section titles in the past, and are hoping get over the hump this weekend. For the story, I spoke to North Rockland’s Mike Caputo, Fox Lane’s Matt Pasqualini, and Jake Srednicki and Mike Spinelli of Mahopac. There are plenty of other seniors who are in similar positions who weren’t mentioned in the story, such as Somers’ Dom DeVita, New Rochelle’s Tyler Lilly, and Hen Hud’s Sean Barry in Division 1, and Croton-Harmon’s DJ Frederich and Edgemont’s Daniel Kornberg in Division 2. These are all wrestlers who have had successful careers, and are hoping to finish them off with their first trips to Albany for the state tournament.
Fairly or unfairly, many of these kids seem to feel that a section title is necessary to really leave their mark on Section 1. There will be a lot on the line in the next few days, and these seniors know this is their final shot. Whether they’ve dealt with injuries or simple bad luck in the past, it all comes down to this moment. It will be interesting to see who can breakthrough. Here is the link to the story.
I’ll have my full predictions for Division 1 and Division 2 posted shortly…
