Sectional predictions

Posted by: Vincent Mercogliano - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 10, 2012

After hours scouring through each bracket, I’m finally ready to release my full predictions for the 2012 Division 1 and Division 2 Section 1 championships. For D1, I did the semis, finals, third place, and fifth place matches. For D2, I only went up to third place. Before anyone starts pointing out instances where I picked a guy to beat someone who he has already lost to, just know that I’m aware of all of the head-to-head meetings. Whether I have reason to believe that a certain guy may avenge a previous loss, or I just have a hunch, I did pick some “upsets.” That’s part of the fun in doing these types of things.

With that being said, most of my champs are either No. 1 or No. 2 seeds. There will definitely be some upsets along the way, but for the most part I think we know which guys are in the mix for titles. The final placings of each wrestler doesn’t necessarily reflect who I think the top four or top six guys are in certain weight classes, but rather how I think it will play out based on the matchups. I encourage everyone to play along and post your own predictions!

To briefly go over the plan for tomorrow, I’ll be at Clarkstown South covering D1, and my colleague Josh Thomson will be at Croton-Harmon covering D2. As always, follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano for updates.
