Key wrestlers battling through injuries

Posted by: Vincent Mercogliano - Posted in Uncategorized on Feb 03, 2012

My feature story in today’s paper focused on wrestlers with section title hopes who have been dealing with nagging injuries this season. The story details how guys such as New Rochelle’s Aaron Butler and Nanuet’s Anthony Calvano are fighting through the pain to make it back in time for sectionals. It also mentions a few guys who unfortunately will have to miss the postseason due to injury. I reported on another case today, with the news breaking that New Rochelle’s A.J. Barbaria will have to miss sectionals for the second consecutive year. I think the bottom line is that wrestling is a sport that can be very taxing on the body, and all of these wrestlers deserve to be commended for their toughness and determination. Here is the link to the story.

I also wanted to go over our coverage plans for tomorrow once more. I’ll be at Mahopac (Division 4), and my colleague Brian Heyman will be at Horace Greeley (Division 3). I’ll be reporting on the results for the other two divisions once the tournaments are concluded. As always, the best way to track the action from home will be to follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano. All finals are scheduled for around 4 p.m.

Here are the seeds for each divisional:
