I am a Mahopac parent and I am VERY disappointed that you do not have a headline announcing that Mahopac beat Somers last night for the league title.
Mahopac did awesome thanks to Coach Disanto!!!
Did you ask coach if he called in results? Noth rockland beat Suffern for league title as well. As far as arlingtons win, Its amazing the difference between early december and late january. Judging by lineups and missing kids looks like brewster is limping to the finish after starting off so strong.
Thank you old skool, I will.
It was such an intense night that I find it hard to believe that someone, other than coach, didn’t spread the word.
Mahopac lost to somers! The referee GAVE Mahopac 6points deciding a match and the dual meet!!
Mahopac’s own coach walked over to the somers coach and congratulated him on beating them by two points!!
no place for that here
Vince get that stuff off the blog
I don’t know who is using my name “PAC” , but I am not happy. I only posted 2 comments:

I just hope it isn’t the disgruntled Somers parent who was yelling out horrible things about the Mahopac wrestlers.
So SAD!
And by the way! It is our Gain and your LOSS! Coach Disanto is by far one of the best wrestling coaches around!!!
What happened at the Somers/Mahopac match? I heard a parent was cheering on the head butt that was given to another wrestler. Can someone elaborate on the intense night?
Tough way to win a league championship, but seem better than co champions.
‘Mahopac lost to somers! The referee GAVE Mahopac 6points deciding a match and the dual meet!!’
How was 6 points GIVEN? Can you explain this in some detail?
Concrats to Mahopac and Coach Disanto
As a Mahopac alumni – I’m happy for Dennis and the stability he brings to that program
As a Brewster Dad- (old skool) your right about limping into last nights match
4 starters out of the lineup – but the boys kept it close going into the final three bouts
Now to get as many back healthy for divisionals-sectional-states
The Mahopac wrestler was tired and out of gas. He was sitting near the line and the Somer’s wrestler charged across the mat and drilled with the crown of his head. Head to Head – it was about 8’ from the stands & you could hear the pop. “Ref” had no choice but to call it.

Mahopac wrestler should have taken a page out of Brian Realbuto book, “Easterns” when you get tired just lay down and have your brother through you a drink. If it dosn’t have an umbrella in it give it to the ref.
You are using my name “Truth b told”. I would appreciate if you don’t do use that name.
Thank you for the clarification. It seems that points were given away by the kids action of head butting. The other post lead me to believe that the ref gave the points without merit.
Can you give any info if a parent was condoning the head butt??
the 152 pound match was called on a Technical DQ for unsportmenship. It should of never happened. The ref who is not the best in section one by far should of had a least hit mahopac with one stall call and a restart since the mahopac wrestler was not getting off the Mat. The somers wrestle did not “Drill” or headbutt the mahopac wrestler He was 3 points away from a major and the mahopac kid basically had stopped wrestling. It was a very intense Dual meet and some parents had some words they said i am sure they regret.
TO “Go pac” Dennis did not leave somers In such Disgrace, you are fool to say that or even think it. Dennis has had competitive programs for 27 years and has raised young men to become Adults shown by the 10-15 former somers Wrestlers who showed up to support him. Enough of the Bad mouthing. Wrestling is about the KIDS and there growth not about the Parents trying to run the show and thinking they know the sport Get a clue “go pac”
“Can you give any info if a parent was condoning the head butt??”
Unfortunately, a parent was.
First off it was not a head butt As i have previously stated. The DQ should of never happened but due to the REF lack of taking control of a match A wrestle who was actually wrestling hurt someone who was not.
Actually the parent was not condoning the Head Butt but rather yelling expletives at Dennis Disanto. once again someone needs to get a proper information
“The somers wrestle did not “Drill” or headbutt the mahopac wrestler He was 3 points away from a major and the mahopac kid basically had stopped wrestling.”
I disagree. I was there!
So was I…. Mark was letting Joe up and he was not getting up at all. This is a example of Stalling. Joe had stopped wrestling its not debatable once a wrestler is cut he has 4 secs or so to move and get up but Joe did not move… Mark did not headbutt he was going for another takedown to get major decsion since they were down by 19 at this point and a 3 team points wasnt going to be enough with only 3 matches left after. Unfortunately because Joe was not wrestling anymore from being Gassed he got hurt. You have a basis toward mahopac and i can understand that being a parent of a mahopac wrestler but do not let that skew the truth.
Thanks for the information.
I really don’t know Dennis Disanto at all but I have witnessed him a few times over the years. He appears to be one of the mildest mannered coaches I have ever seen. Why would a parent be yelling expletives at him?
that is between the parent and Dennis… it does not need to be discussed on blog forums like this. Sorry
someone with a clue,
If you were there then you did heard the expletives and the parent tell the wrestler who was head butt to “get some balls” while he was laying on the mat getting medical assistance.
It was really a disgrace and the first time I ever witnessed such poor sportsmanship by a team.
Wrestling is a sport that starts with a handshake and ends with a handshake. It teachers self-confidence, discipline, determination, goal setting, sportsmanship and being a team member.
My son has learned so many life lessons and met so many well rounded young men from all over because of wrestling. He loves the sport and so do I.
Last night was very disappointing.
It was not a headbutt. I understand you might think that is what you saw since you never have wrestled before, but Mark was in the act of shooting a double leg not going for a head butt.. it makes sense for him to headbutt at that point he need to the W and the Team points
I unfortunately was at this match yesterday and heard the disturbing comments being made. This persons actions aggravated the intensity of the matches. In case some are not aware, the comments came from the parent of the somers wrestler who got DQ’d at Eastern States for disrespectfully throwing a water bottle. As the old saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the trees. Need I say more???
Let’s also be clear on another matter, some of these athletes are competing for a chance to get into college. Their results and their dedication to the sport they love require them to train year round with the best coaches and athletes they can be around. The match last night was hard fought by both sides. The Ref did the best that he could all by himself. Maybe in the future when it is such a big match, both schools can agree to have to officials on the mat and only knowledgeable adults at the scoring table. Also, there should be the proper security present so that someone does not get attacked as there walking out of the gym!
Parents R Crazy,
The proper security should have started by throwing out the bum parent who started with the vulgarity. This would have ended the situation. This parent has done this before. I have seen him act inappropriately on more than one occassion. In addition, one of his sons acted inappropriately on numerous occassions too.
I really don’t think that kids going for a scholarship is an appropriate excuse. This one parent has been around this sport for many many years and hasn’t learned much about what the sport should be teaching you. I feel sorry for this parent and his kids. Even though they train intensely they are missing out on what this sport has to offer.
Wow the last time i rememberd was that there is two kids out there giving there all,not parents.Unfortunatley some of theses crazy parents never played any HS sports so they live there HS years through the eyes of there childern!
BYE THE WAY GO PAC!!!
someone with a clue,
I am going to put this to rest. As far as the “head butt,” we will have to agree to disagree. I was not the only one to see it.
I will say that some of your wrestling knowledge does confuse me. You said:
“Joe had stopped wrestling its not debatable once a wrestler is cut he has 4 secs or so to move and get up but Joe did not move… Mark did not headbutt he was going for another takedown”
“I understand you might think that is what you saw since you never have wrestled before, but Mark was in the act of shooting a double leg not going for a head butt”
How can you be in the act of shooting a double leg if the other wrestler is on the mat not moving or standing up?
And of course you know the consequences of an illegal slam if the wrestler doesn’t up? Right?
As far as “the fight in the parking lot”, there was “NO” fight in the parking lot. Words were said in the gym. That’s it.
I agree with No Sides: “The proper security should have started by throwing out the bum parent who started with the vulgarity.”
If you have a child then you know what it feels like to see them hurt. It is even worse when you hear another adult saying crass comments about your child while they are hurt.
Go Mahopac!!!
Hey Vince really whats up with no Mahopac props, wow never really knew the hatrid for Mahopac what a bunch of HATERS!!!!!!!!!!!
lol Bum? a bum is the white trash father from Mahopac that tried to start a fight with one of the strongest supporters of wrestling in section one as he was walking out of the gym that night.
duh,did you hear what was coming out of the mouth of the somers dad because if u had,u would not be saying anything.Unless anyone was there and heard what was said just keep ur mouths shut!
I would like to clarify some issues. I was also in the gym. It WAS a head butt. The ref was the closest one to it and he called it. (That’s his job) He sent the right message to that boy. The coach did not call anyone a name. He is a gentleman. One of the somers boys went over and shook hands with the assistant coach but would not shake hands with Coach D. Mom, are you proud of your son? There WAS additional security, we didnt know why, until the wrestling started. It is unfortunate that a few vulgar, disrespectful, trashey people give everyone a bad name. Hey DUH, As for the WORDS out in the parking lot, if some “parent” yelled at my hurt kid to “Get some balls”, I think he might be looking for some new ones himself. Did he think he was at a WWF match? Sounds like he and his kids have some anger issues they need to work on. Parents need to teach their children how to handle difficult situations, nobody likes to lose, but some failed miserably on Thursday night.
can someone explain fully what happened, preferably biases left out
Allday, please read what you have written, I think anyone from your school would wish you had attended a different school.
Somers, please with that self pity Blahh Blahh Blahh u must have been in a differnt part of the county that night i quess the truth hurts.
There are too many ignorant people on here talking about things they know nothing about. Please stop gossiping about issues that you do not know the facts about. Its pathetic to see parents from any team come on here and bad mouth a team or person with misguided information.
Clueless,
You definitely couldn’t be a Mahopac parent. Your English and writing are way to good.
Too good
cya
Vince,
As a seasoned Fox Lane parent I know wrestlers / parents from both schools and have no dog in this race. In my opinon , the wrestling community and the integrity of your blog are being tested by this exchanage. Like any large group, both have their fair share of good guys and knuckle-heads. Unforetuneately it appears that parents and wrestlers from both schools have made some really ugly and inappropriate comments on your blog. You can either re-inforce some basic ground rules for further particpation on your blog or watch future commentary of this nature destroy your excellent work. I hope you take a stand and try to bring some order back to the chaos ….........
Respectfully submitted,
Ragman
I missed a lot of drama. This stuff has been going on between Somers and Mahopac as far as I can remember. In 1974, after Somers beat Mahopac for the old UWPL title, the NYS police had to make an appearance. One of the SomersL captains was an all-county wrestler named Dennis DiSanto. Dennis was a teammate of mine, and I wish him the best with his new team. I think the results are speaking volumes.
Guys,
It’s a waste of my time and yours to post these offensive comments, which takes away from the time that I have to write about and cover wrestling, and forces me to read through this nonsense.
You all know the rules. Comment as often as you like, but keep it clean and don’t attack anyone personally. Talk all you want about what happens on the mat, but don’t use this forum to trash people—especially high school kids!
also congrats to Coach DiSanto and Mahopac for defeating a talented Somers’ team and thus winning a league title.
Mahopac’s 152 pounder had stopped wrestling, full knowing tht Mark would win. Mark had no intention of hurting him and the boy walked off the mat with no evidence of any head injury. An immature Mahopac parent also attempted to start a fight with Steve Realbuto, out of spite, malice and jealousy. And perhaps people should not praise DiSanto so highly without knowing the true reason for his resignation, an attempt to harm the Somers team and maintain absolute control over his wrestlers.
Old Tusker
1974…..
Somers beat Mahopac
Mahopac beat Carmel
Carmel beat Somers
All three teams shared the title in both the 1974 and 1975 seasons
And if I’m correct we were both on the mat in 74 (still can’t figure out how you pinned me)
old tusker,
How do you praise a man who goes to the head table first to check on the call that the Referee made before he checks on his hurt athlete? Is that what you want to teach your children?
You are 100% right. His actions speak volumes!!!!
How many teams were in the county in 1974? Maybe 3?
1) obviously the ref saw it differently so i will respect his decision. In the end, it is the ref’s opinion that counts.
2) it does appear that Steve crossed a line and fomented the actions of the Mahopac parent. It seems they were both out of line. Brawls and other nonsense have between Mahopac and Somers fans have been around since I played football and wrestled for Somers, 1969-1973.
3) I know the real story concerning Dennis’s move to Mahopac. Dennis was a teammate of mine at Somers, Dennis is a freind of mine. Steve Reabuto is no Dennis DiSanto.
4) if you have a diiferent opinion, that is your prerogative, but you have no right to infringe upon the first amendment rights of others. you are the one wanting total control.
5) All of this drama is unnecessary, and it is time to move on. Dennis seems happy with his decision, and Mahopac seems happy to have him, so I personally wish him well, and once again offer Dennis and Mahopac my congratulations for a job well done.
prc e8 – sorry i was not wrestling in 1974 and forgot about the 3 way tie. My bad.
Holy cow – there were probably as many teams back then as in the present day.
I had my say. I am moving on.
Well said Birdseye view! I hope everyone plays nice @ Divisions…Zero Tolerance!!
Your all so full of it,
I’m trying to figure out if you’re from Mahopac or Somers?
Everyone needs to stop its obvious their is a small sample of Somers Parents who do not like Dennis. So be it, but stop attacking the man with lies and decite about his departure from Somers. Like That Awkward Moment stated above.
Dennis is a great coach the views of some somers parents do not represent the feelings of over 20+ years of somers parents.
Vince why was there nothing in the paper about Mahopac beating Somers
Allday,
We received the box score too late that night, but it was in the following day’s paper.
And guys, I had to take down another comment earlier today. That’s like 5 from this one post alone. You’ve all been really good for the most part over the course of the past two seasons. Let’s not ruin that reputation at this exciting time of the year. There’s so much else to talk about.
