Hen Hud senior Phil Siegel tied Sean Brophy’s school career wins record of 116 on Thursday in a 58-20 win over Lakeland. He’ll attempt to break the record at the Kohl Invitational at Suffern HS on Saturday.
There were quite a few notable matches that stood out to me, as well.
– In a slight upset, Clarkstown North’s Colby Kash defeated North Rockland’s Matt Caputo in a 132-pound bout by decision, 10-4. Caputo is expected to wrestle at 126 for sectionals.
– Yorktown’s Thomas Murray defeated Somers’ Nick Giancaspro in a 195-pound bout by decision, 4-3. Murray is expected to go 182 for sectionals.
– Somers’ Dom DeVita got bumped up from 220 to 285 to face Yorktown’s David Varain for the second time this season, and once again lost by a point.
– RC Ketcham’s Michael Morabito defeated Brewster’s Jimmy Duncan in their 132-pound bout by decision, 7-6. It was Morabito’s second win of the season over Duncan.
– In a D2 showdown, Ardsley’s Drew Longo defeated Dobbs Ferry’s Jimmy Kyreakedes in their 126-pound bout by decision, 7-6. Kyreakedes recently returned from injury. That’s a very interesting weight class.

Dylan Realbuto was not in the lineup for Somers. That would have given them the win. Why is Brian up to 182. I’m guessing his weigh-in weight was 172 at the lowest for him to wrestle at 182. Is he planning on dodging Palacio?
i doubt brian is trying to dodge palacio, whats wrong with him bumping up a couple weight classes to try and help the team, they obviously didn’t need him at 152 for the dual seeing as they won that weight class as well so by moving him up they secured more points for the team i think it was a smart move
Wow-
7-6 Longo is not what I expected. They both raise their game when it counts.
I think they will both place at states.
Was Kornberg out sick, pretty sure he beats the Bailey kid but would like to see how they measure up(only a freshman)
Abrahante gave mccormack a tough match, Hastings might be a little underrated
Blog,
Edgemont schedules 9 duals so starters have to sit one out, this match was Kornberg’s turn to sit

not making excuses but Jimmy was hurting real bad, feb is going to be interesting.
The only surprise about Drew beating Jimmy is how close the match was. Drew already beat Occhipinti too who also beat Jimmy. Longo is easily going to take the weight class and if the other 2 stay there, they will have to hope for 2 wildcards in the same weight class? It may be to late for a come back fom some of the D2 top ranked guys Kyreakedes, Dillon and what’s the story with Calavano still sick?????
Hi-C,
Agreed. I did not think it would be so close. Has Calvano not been wrestling?
Grappling
I saw Calavano didn’t even place at easterns, heard he and Trey were both sick. Then I didn’t see either of them in yestetdays line ups. Then I saw that Dillon lost to the Nyack kid who didn’t even get a mention in rankings. D2 is falling apart fast.
Looks like Suffern, Croton and Edgemont moved their tournaments to Sunday with the snow coming in on Saturday.
Hi-C ,
I think Trey sat out yesterday because of what aaa wrote. As long as everyone is healthy come sectionals I think D2 will be fine with some great match-ups to look forward to.
Does anyone know why Dylan R did not wrestle? Could it be Related to the d-q at Eastern States? I have no facts on this …. Therefore the question mark.
Dq = sit next match.
Don’t know what Calvano’s problem is but he wrestled horrible at Eastern states went to the match yesterday he looked fine was even rolling up the mat’s? could he of been dodging Adit from Nyack? Matt Dillon just came back from toe surgery who knows with him ? BTW did anyone see the Skokos kid at Eastern States against returning state champ Malmberg Skokos hung tough put him on his back 3 times score 22-17 Malmberg. He went 2-2 and the little Dillon placed 7th i think?
Yeah he was ducking Thakur, makes sense for counties. Skokos got a raw deal in his last match, I heard his coach was texting in the corner and wasn’t paying attention to the score.
Let’s not forget the fact that D-Real threw a water bottle at the Ref after his brother (Brian) lost….should have been sanctioned for two matches! Lucky it didn’t happen just before Divisionals!! Lesson learned?? I doubt it!
That is sad if his coach was texting in the corner i heard that his coach said let him have two and Skokos’s father was filming him and yelling don’t give it up there was only 5 seconds left the kid reversed him and cut him then jumped on him to win by a point what a shame on those coaches! As for the water bottle incident should of been two matches not knowing how to lose like a gentleman is a shame wonder how Askern feel’s about that?
D-Q has never handled losing well… I know of incidents with him going back many years…. I really hope he matures…... He is a good wrestler of course but eventualy everyone loses….. Or almost everyone.
