I’m sitting here matside as Fox Lane and Mahopac are getting ready to wrestle their final dual of the day before we get into the crossover round. So far, Fox Lane is only Section 1 team still alive for a championship at 3-0. Brewster finished up the day on the other side of pool at 2-2, so the Bears are looking at probably the fifth-place match. They lost a tight one to MacArthur, 39-35, in their final match. MacArthur and Johnson City have been two of the stronger looking teams from outside of Section 1.
Mahopac is 1-2 after a 43-33 loss to Farmingdale, so a loss to the Foxes here will drop the Indians into the bottom five. So far, Fox Lane won the first three matches via pin (Frank Suarce, Danny Ventura and Sam Speno). This part of the Foxes lineup may be the most lethal in the state. At 145, we had one of the most highly anticipated matches of the day. Fox Lane’s Tom Grippi defeated Mahopac’s Jake Srednici by decision, 6-5. Those two are ranked 1-2 in my weight class rankings, so this very well could have been a sectional finals preview. I got video of the final two periods on my FlipCam. Here’s the link.
I’ll be back with more updates and box scores later. The championship round should begin in about an hour or so. Follow me on Twitter @vzmercogliano for immediate updates.
UPDATE: Fox Lane defeats Mahopac to finish 4-0 and make it into the finals. The Foxes will be matched up against the MacArthur-Kellenberg winner.
