I thought some of you might want to check out some of the local wrestlers in action at the USAW National Freestyle Championships in Fargo, ND. I found these on YouTube, and there’s plenty more if you search.
The 145-title match between Brian Realbuto and Brian Murphy of Illinois is one of the more exciting that you’ll see. Realbuto lost the first period, 1-0, and then relinquished his 3-1 lead in the second. Murphy tied it up at 3-3, but B-Real responded big-time. He showed his incredible quickness by hooking Murphy’s leg with about 15 seconds remaining in the period, and was able to pick up three points on a back trip. He was set to win the period and even things up, but he shocked everyone by finished Murphy off with the pin with only one second remaining. It’s definitely worth a watch. Here is the link. And here is an interview with Realbuto from after the match.
Steven Rodrigues was up against John Meeks of Iowa in 135-pound fifth place. Meeks is a highly decorated wrestler in Iowa, but S-Rod was able to outlast him. Here is the video.
And here is Trey Aslanian’s seventh-place match against Oklahoma’s Eli Hale.
