Hey everyone! It’s been a little while since I’ve last posted, but I wanted to send out a reminder about my all-star teams, which are being released in Friday’s paper. Both the Westchester/Putnam and the Rockland 15-man lineups are finally set, plus I’ll have my wrestler of the year and coach of the year announcements. I’ll also have second-team all-stars and some honorable mentions.
It’s been a long process determining who is most deserving, but I must say that I feel pretty confident with the final decisions. On the day of the release, I’ll have a post up at some point which will further detail my choices (a few of the weight classes were very tough).
Until then, feel free to drop your own all-star lineups and/or predictions…

I’ll give it a go
96 – Dylan Realbuto NYS runner up
103- Trey Aslanian NYS runner up – Debate all you like, a win during the middle of the season doesn’t mean all that much – ask Jimmy Duckham
112- Sam Speno NYS runner up
119- Danny Ventura NYS runner up – Danny won when it mattered most, at States
125- Ryan Osleeb NYS Champ
130- SRod NYS Champ
135- Brian Realbuto NYS Champ
140- Steve Pagliucca DNP NYS
145- Rino DeVita DNP NYS
152- Vincent Grella 3rd NYS
160- Aaron Butler DNP NYS
171- Jacob Berkowitz DNP NYS
189- Joe Spinelli Did not go to States
215- Lucas Myer DNP NYS
285- Malcolm Allen NYS Champ- Once again , it does not matter what happened along the way it matters where you end up.
Would anyone from Rockland county besides Joe Cummings make this list?
160 – Mischa Barry- didnt get to finish the season but has beaten a state champ, Butler DNP
171- Coyne would make it from Rockland by your standards, he won a match in Albany, Berko didn’t
152 isn’t Grella on a technicality (same as Duckham) Beacon is in Dutchess, 152 goes to Seigel
and I would put Benderoth over Realbuto based on potential, Dylan has what 2 years on him? and the obvious training advantages that Dylan has, although Blaise has it pretty well too down at Olympic and with a pretty strong team
160- Mischa is not Westchester/Putnam .
171- Coyne- I thought was going to surprise everyone after he knocked off the 2 seed but then lost his next 2 – a DNP is a DNP.
152- Did not Realize – Yes 152 goes to Seigel

well… Benderoth is a tough young wrestler. that Rockland Poll looks busted . who would do that? Next year he’ll get a lot more 1st and place at states i’ll bet.
This is the most difficult year. I predict he makes Realbuto or SROD wrestler of the year OR BOTH co-wrestler of the year. There is similar difficulties at “all-star”. For example do you really put Osleeb as “2nd team”(I think it would be first time that a state champ and D1 recruit makes second team) with SROD over him….I predict some shared spots….if they make co-wrestler of the year then probable will not disrespect some of the state champs and make them share first team. At the end of the day its not very important compared with the accomplishments of many up at states.
Interesting….I wonder if the Journal News personnel- paper/site- understand the key ranking criteria- that is the standard in this sport. State rank may really mean nothing to them, or perhaps just politics and economics…readers, viewers, advertisers, or big lunches are their biggest interests.
Dan Gable always preached ” It’s not where you start, or how you do along the way, but where you finish that counts”.
There must be double winners with 15 in the line-up.
I guess we will find out soon.
Vince,
Can you do everyone a favor and inquire where sections are going to be next year. They may give you the “not sure yet” or , we are working on it.
Dont let them get away with what they did this year. If not at Pace then somewhere comparable.
They deserve it.
It’s not like they wanted to be at Lincoln HS, without pace they had to scramble. It was a school with a big enough gym.
From what I know they are trying to get back in at pace or a similar venue (purchase) and the idea of keeping d1 & 2 separate (d2 saturday, d1 Sunday) and a day 1 at different sites
here is a list of local guys putting their break to good use going down to south jersey to compete at the war at the shore
kudos to these guys just for competing over their break, and their off-season training
