As everyone finishes packing their bags and begins the troop up to Albany, I wanted to take a moment to wish all of the Section 1 participants the best of luck this weekend! Section 1 has an opportunity for a very strong showing and I know that many people are looking forward to multiple state place finishers.
I’ll be heading up to the Times Union Center tomorrow morning and staying until Saturday for the finals. I’ll do my best to update the blog as often as possible (internet service pending), so as to keep everyone following from home up to date. Check here for results and analysis.
Lastly, I had a story appear in today’s paper detailing the special relationship shared by Fox Lane senior Steven Rodrigues and Somers junior Brian Realbuto. It was really quite interesting talking with the two top wrestlers in the section about how they’ve helped each improve over the years. You can just hear the passion in their voices; it’s easy to see that these two eat, sleep and breath wrestling. That type of 110% attitude is what makes them so hard to beat, and their competitive fire is unmistakable. When I asked each about how they would fare against the other today, both gave confident and resounding (and somewhat playful) answers about how the other would have no shot.
Once again, best of luck to everyone this weekend! It should be a fun one.

Is there ever a post that doesn’t mention “the big two
”
i think they earned it, they are probably the hardest working kids in the whole section
That’s a bold statement
Hard work doesn’t always equal success, there are kids who give all they got and they just can’t put it all together
Don’t get me wrong though these guys are gymrats they put in tons of time
It’s just that the media crush is getting old
Well curious, it’s ok. S-Rod is a senior so you won’t hear about him next year. I think these kids deserve all of the attention they get from the section. I agree with the notebook. curious, who do you want him to talk more about.
My predictions…

I enjoyed the article. Sports, like many activities can be the catalyst to friendship. I agree that many others work hard and deserve our respect and admiration even without getting to the podium. Hopefully many of those young men are also enjoying the social benefits of participation.
nice article
I can’t agree with you more. My children never made it to the podium but the friendships they made throughout the sport of wrestling was the best thing that could have happened.(not even so much with teammates but with other boys from section 1)
I’d love those predictions to be right, but why would Berkowitz win?! Prell has been winning big matches and tearing up Section 9 for 3 years.
Blaise Benderoth upsets second seed.. I’m calling it now… He will knock off Realbuto in the quarters.. not to mention he had a set of backs that the ref missed in the section final… REDEMPTION
you called it at 1:08? he already upset the second seed… look at some of the results at nysphsaawrestling.com
and dcw, because Berkowitz is a beast who has been winning big matches and tearing up Section 1 now for about 3 months.

My bad, i posted it as wrestling123 for some reason.
What a disappointment with section 1 coverage – It’s almost 3:00 and no updates on the STATE TOURNAMENT on the blog, section one site down…... have to go to lighthouse wrestling?? What’s up with that??????
Mixer, where u at lol coyne beats 2 seed prell. Berkowitz well ill let u figure it out.
allen and scopino both won by dec….Really does suck section 1 has no updates…also going to lighthouse. As usual LI on point
Sorry for the delay with the results guys. I’ve been running around the building and arguing with people over the internet connection for quite some time. Many other reporters are having the same problems. The facilities are great here, but they obviously didn’t prepare properly for the internet traffic.
This is the first time I’ve been able to break through. I just put up a post (refresh the page if you don’t see it). We’re in the middle of the quarters. The best place to follow the results is nysphsaawrestling.com.
Some real quality wrestling thus far…
I love that bloggers jump to arguing, I said the guys are deserving of what they get, they could get more and still deserve it. I think its lame that guys come on and complain about them sitting out at state practices when in reality they are putting in hours and hours on their own all year, they are good to go
I was simply referring to Vince’s media-crush on them. He clearly loves writing about them
ok old skool. I admit i was wrong. But I stand by my belief that Berkowitz should have done better out there. He had a bad day thats all. and are you going to tell me seriously that you think coyne beat the 2 seed by his “skill”. He got lucky. I think you can figure that one out.
Maybe berkowitz had the day of his life 2nd day of sectionals. Or maybe he just matches up well with coyne. Its all about styles and match ups. your just being a punk by saying coyne got lucky. Did i say berkowitz got lucky after sections. Looking back maybe i should have.
I think coyne was down a poiny, maybe 2, could be wrong but I could have swore the match was close when he pinned him. It is a punk move to say he got lucky. Is that would be like saying most home runs in baseball are luvky, because the pitcher makes a mistake and the batter jumps on it.
The kid is opportunistic, hit a big move in a tight moment
Well Old skool. I won a match earlier this season by throwing a cement job. Im not a great wrestler and beat a pretty good wrestler in the last seconds by pinning him. I was losing 10-0 before i threw it. me hitting a big move in a tight situation was lucky. Now you guys can say what you want, and i am happy that coyne won because above all in states i’m a section one fan. And Old skool, a pin can be lucky, winning 11-0 and 8-2 is not lucky.
ok section finals, score 2-2 thor crab rides berk to his back, he slips berkowitz reverses and get backs. instead of mcgugh getting backs berkowitz does. that match came down to one move, so is that lucky? or its it that you cant be objective because of a man crush on your teamate. kid went 0-2 at states i stand by what i said before sectionals, berkowitz had a lucky weeknd. he matches up well with coyne, and won on a slip by thor. Scarsdale’s lack of quality competition came back to bite him in the butt.
