I have a few links that I wanted to share, but before I do, I wanted to address some concerns I noticed in the comments.
I’d like to reiterate the importance of coaches getting results to us on the day of a meet/tournament. We most certainly were aware of the Mid-Hudson tournament at Arlington yesterday, and I was hoping to have some results either called or emailed in. I worked during the day yesterday, so I was not in the office at night, but I asked one of my colleagues to post the results when we received them. I woke up to an email this morning stating that we didn’t get anything.
It is true that Dutchess schools aren’t in our coverage area, which is why they aren’t included in Power Rankings and things of that nature. But, when there are local Westchester/Rockland/Putnam schools involved, we always try to give you guys results. I’m usually given about two days a week in which I can make it to an event and cover it myself. This week, with the Pearl River and Somers tournaments going on within our coverage area, those are the two that I selected.
For anything else which is wrestling related, I’m forced to rely heavily on the cooperation from coaches to make sure that we receive results. Most are very good about it, but I wanted to throw the phone number and email address up here once more in case anyone is having trouble.
As I’ve stated before, I would usually suggest emailing, which will limit the stress on both sides. But, calling between 5:30-9pm is always an option. As long as we received the results within 24 hours of an event, we will print it, but we won’t print anything which is more than a day old.
The email address is: vcsports@lohud.com; and the phone number is: 914-696-8888.
And here is this week’s wrestling notebook, which includes items on the Thakur family in Nyack, Rino DeVita’s 100th win, and the new locations and dates for sectionals.
I’ll be heading off to catch the finals of the Eric D’Agnese tournament at Somers in just a bit. Pending internet connection, I’ll try to update from right there. If I can’t get any service in the gym, I’ll be back later to post the results. The finals begin at 1pm.

Its Mid-hudson not Mid-Atlantic ….
He said Mid-Hudson…you guys need to stop crying about wrestling coverage. It is a sport that lives in anonymity, and prides itself on such. The coverage in Dutchess County is even worse, so be thankful!
They’re splitting up the sectional tournament completely? This is ridiculous…it’s time to put an end to the divided tournament. Even if the state insists on carrying on with the split, we as a section needn’t adhere to it. Bring back the true section tournament…send the highest place finisher from D2 onto small school states. Or, have the D2 championship as one of the divisional qualifiers for a unified section tournament.
Small school wrestlers in section 1 have gradually gone from being part of the big show to being relegated to a below-average tournament held in anonymity at one of their own gyms. It’s time to put an end to this.
The theory is that smaller districts have a much smaller talent pool to draw from, so they can’t compete with large schools. In a more individual sport (or individual postseason) like wrestling, it could be argued that the smaller talent pool leads to lesser quality practice for any single school, thus an individual from a small school may not be able to improve as quickly as one from a large school.
I agree that the split is bad for the kids, as they constantly have to defend themselves to large school wrestlers. Unfortunately, the argument that the 3rd place large school wrestler can frequently beat the small school champ usually holds up. Not everyone goes to a club or gets to wrestle with JJCR.
The Section 1 championships look to be a real joke this year. This setup for ‘11 is a disgrace to all involved especially the kids and the fans. 3 days at 2 sites with the finals for D2 taking place during the D1 1/4s and semis. Give me a frigging break.
Most importantly, WHY LINCOLN? There is no way a Yonkers school can handle this tournament. The facilities a Yonkers High were atrocious the past 2 years, great wrestling but ghetto accommodations. These schools are run down, dirty and the restroom facilities are deplorable(I love the smell on old piss in the morning)!!!! I KNOW LET’S JUST HAVE THE D1 FINALS IN THE BASEMENT OF A HOUSING PROJECT IN THE BRONX.
However is responsible for this mess should be FIRED asap and without the benefit of their bloated pension that our tax dollars have paid for. A DISGRAZIA!!
correction, WHOEVER
Have the Section I Championships over two days at Rockland Community College.
Bergen County holds their meet at RCC every year. They know how to do it. They have the stands. They have the facilities and the parking.
