Sorry for the delay on these. With deadline fast approaching, it was difficult to round up all of the individual results, as multiple dual meets were going on simultaneously.

Mahopac was the story of the day, with strong performances across the board. Steven Pagliuca at 135, Tom Viento at 160 and Andy Scopino at 285 are some of the wrestlers who stood out, but the Indians showed the type of overall depth that has to put them in the conversation for best team in the section. Mahopac finished in second place; the best showing of any Section 1 team. They nearly came away with the championship, as MacArthur narrowly escaped with a 43-39 victory.
Fox Lane finished in fifth place overall, but that’s not indicative of how well the Foxes performed. They were tied with Hauppauge and MacArthur with a 3-1 record leading up to the championship game, but MacArthur got the nod thanks to more overall points. Ironically, Fox Lane defeated MacArthur 40-34 earlier in the day. The Foxes beat the team that went on to win the whole thing, showing that they are capable of hanging with nearly anyone. Sam Speno at 119, Danny Ventura at 125 and Steven Rodrigues at 140 form a lethal middle of the order, so to speak, which is capable of rattling off points in a hurry. That will be an asset all season long.
Brewster’s Mike Parise had a workmen-like day, finishing 5-0 with three pins and two technical falls. He’s probably the wrestler to beat in the section at 103. The Bears had a rough day overall (0-5, ninth place), but a strong performance in a 45-42 loss to Mahopac provided some reason for optimism.
The prevailing sentiment among coaches and wrestlers was that the level of competition at this tournament is just about as high as any they’ll see all season. Rocky Point is the defending state champs, while MacArthur, Hauppauge, Johnson City and East Islip are perennial Long Island powers. Throw those type of teams into the mix with a Fox Lane and a Mahopac, and you’ve got yourself a very competitive day of wrestling.

Vincent, thanks for the excellent coverage!
A minor correction … Johnson City is not from Long Island, they’re from upstate NY (Binghamton/Endicot area). Farmingdale is the 5th Long Island team that was at the tournament.
good job in the coverage Vincent and did andy scopino go undefeated also and was there any of the Ossining wrestlers that were outstanding in the tournament ? good thing to know section 1 is making some noise around the state keep it up boys
Who is Spinelli? He looks like a beast, nothing but pins!

Can anyone confirm that sectionals will NOT be at Pace this year, 2 separate tournements (large and small school) at 2 different sites on the same day this year???
Yup thats true due to the Pace shooting. Pace University would rather not have the sectionals at Pace this year
Andrew Panken wrestled up at 215 and went 5-0. His brother Daniel suffered an ankle injury early in the tourney.
