This is the best you can come up with? No results or boxscores? UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! DO YOUR JOB!!!
Relax old coach. The season has started and we are getting results. Let’s keep it a positive tine on the forums and you might get what you are looking for.
Was there for little while yesterday great matches but real sloopy wrestling. Are kids wrestle like that in the states and they will go home real early. The 98 pounder for Mahopac is the best wrestler on that team, and of course Jake to.But it is early in te season,Fox Lane looked real tuff.If they get good wrestling from 160 0n up no one will touch them.
Section 1 seems to have made a statement this weekend! Mahopac came within a few points of winning the Mahopac duals against some top teams from Long Island. Fox Lane beat MacArthur, the eventual winner of the Mahopac duals. North Rockland overshadowed Warwick (last year’s Section 9 champs) in the North Rockland tournament. Looks like Section 1 should be getting some well-earned respect!
Mahopac beat Brewster 45-42, Rocky Point 63-16, Johnson City 63-9
Fox Lane Beat MacArthur lost to Hauppague
Johnson City beat #4 State Chenango Forks last week 35-8
Hauppague Beat Rocky Point by a few points Section 1 Teams should get some credit
Very good early season dual with some great wrestling and some sloppy wrestling because for some teams was their first competition.
Section 1 is on the rebound and doing well but we have a long way to go.
MacArthur won tournament will probably not win Section 8 same with Hauppague in Section 11.
Perez (Mac) was by far the best wrestler in dual. Totally dominated Pagliuca(pac) who had a great dual. I was told Speno beat McCormack(JC) Big Upset but not surprise.
Mahopac 96 DiNardo who is only a seventh grader but not Mahopac best wrestler but will be shortly had a great dual but was majored by MacArthur.
Biggest upset was Farmingdale beating Mahopac in first round.
Section 1 dual tournament will be interesting on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The coverage in this blog of the Mahopac Tourney is disappointing, particularly the reporting about Fox Lane. First there is no mention of Fox Lane being a poor takedown call away from going undefeated losing to Haupauge by only 3 (37-34) Second, there was mention of “the middle of Fox Lane’s lineup” leaving out Peter Grippi & Sam Speno who is a 2 time state qualifer and a 5th place winner as a freshman. Oh and by the way, he defeated a 3 time state place winner and state runner-up from Johnson City named Sean McCorrmick in the very same Mahopac Duals. How is this missed. Lastly, there are no individual match results for Fox Lane either. Not a great first impression guys! Seems to me that there are some Mahopac homers out there. Mahopac looks very tough but a little balance is clearly warranted!
Rebel,
How do you figure that Perez (Mac) was by far the best wrestler in the dual??? Are you unaware of the credentials of Sean McCormick? Steve Rodrigues (who beat Perez in Super 32 taking 4th)? Sam Speno (who beat McCormick). Was everyone connected with this blog in the Mahopac gym that day??
It was Mahopac’s turn to shine, and they did, almost winning the top spot. As for the coverage, there was mention of Fox Lane and how well they did as well.
Not seeing the box scores of Fox Lane was disappointing, but after seeing the scores I would have to say that FL may have been the best team in the gym that day.
Can’t wait to see FL at Wantagh next weekend going at it against Wantagh, Shen, and New Rochelle and a few other teams.
cya
jjcr and fox lane are the 2 most covered teams by the journal news give them a break. why didnt amuso subit the box scores, how do you think brewsters box scores were in there. The main coverage was for the team who placed highest. do you think new rochelle or north rockland got tons of coverage at sectionals last year?? Granted speno’s win over mccormick was big, but in dual tournaments its just one of 5 matches going on at the same time. If this was a regular tournament you would have seen a huge write up if it was a finals match. Thats the huge downfall of dual tournaments, big time matchups dont have the hype of a regular tournament.
Oldschool,
I don’t care whether the coverage is of Fox Lane or another school even though I have a kid on the team. If Section 1 is ever going to gain respect and popularity in NYS then the stars and the key match ups have to be promoted particularly when Section one kids beat Section 8 or 11 stars! You are right about dual tourneys though. Fox Lane placed 5th though they only lost one match (by 3). The only other team tolose one match was McArther who placed first and actually lost to Fox Lane. Go figure! PS: Fox Lane beat Brewster 60 to 20 yesterday and Mahopac only beat them by 4. Regardless of opinions, all will be settled tomorrow at New Rochelle when they go head to head! It should be fun!
ps section one’s stars have respect around the state, the problem is our dual teams stink or dont got to legit dual tournaments. mahopac and jjcr are going to the union endicott duals, the states dual meet championship while fox lane goes to portchester to get 6 easy duals and one average dual. Why doesnt doesnt fox lane travel out of section looking for best teams in dual tournaments? i will say that this yr the did go to the mahopac duals which were really tough, but until this year fox lane only did individual tournaments like mamoroneck, east fishkill that they werent tested. JJCR went to shen and u-e duals last year seeking out the best. until we stop caring about being the big fish in the little pond our “teams” will never get the rankings or respect it deserves.
Old School,
I agree with you that the Section 1 stars have respect around the state but Section One as a whole does not. I also agree that it would be great if Fox Lane traveled even more to tough competition. They do send 6 or more kids to Eastern States and the team to Wantagh which until this year was a dual meet tourney. I have personal experience with this. My High School (Woodlands) had no program until my coach (Randy Forest) took us everywhere from Huntington, Brentwood, & Amityville in LI to Peru NY near the Canadian border. With this strategy we went from the cellar to 5 Section finalists, 3 champions and a top 25 ranking in NYS (in 1977), and as a small school among all schools. Hey enjoy the matches in New Ro. I know I will!
