People were still voting on the old poll today, even though it was about who would win sectionals. Talk about Monday-morning quarterbacking.
Joe Grippi won that one, which asked who was the biggest lock to win sections. Impressive since he was a write-in candidate. Of course all four names that I threw up (as well as Grippi) won a title.
Now I want your prediction for states. Who is going to make it the furthest? Can Justis Flamio repeat his runner-up finish. Can Andrew Lenzi win another title? What about the DII guys?
If anybody can lend some insight into who your candidate is facing from other sections, we’d all like to know.

Can you not list Brian Realbuto? He finished fourth last year and should place higher this year, if not win the whole thing.
how can you not add Brian Realbuto? there is an add an entry choice, just add Brian Realbuto
I shouldn’t have to enter him, he should be one of the top kids already on there.
but if i have to ….
“Joe Grippi won that one, which asked who was the biggest lock to win sections. Impressive since he was a write-in candidate.”
obviously Jake still needs some help….....
now i know only 6 people voted but where is the love for Flamio ? one OT match and now everyone has forgotten him?? I’m assuming they still do draws ? at the beginning of the year ? Because i think Justice saw the draw and thinks he will see Keith in the finals? So whats to think he doesnt make it there ? then its a coin flip
I voted Lenzi, took the easy way out, but Ossining guys feel free to give me crap for not voting for Brundage, its no who do you want to go the furthest
I listed Realbuto as one of four choices in the last poll. Just trying to mix things up. There are 31 locals going to states. Can’t list all of them. That’s why there’s the option to add an answer.
put kramer in that mix hes got a pretty good shot to make noise in albany
I don’t know who is going the place and I don’t care who it ends up being. All I wont is a champ for section one. This year I think we got some good guys going and our chances are batter than ever.
One
kramer wont place. he just isnt state caliber yet. everyones expectations for kids are always too high. i think grippi and realbuto have the best shots at winning state titles since both are ranked 2nd in their weight classes and have lost to the number 1 kid in close matches at eastern states. and jake grippi deserves a little more respect obviously u dont no much about him hes a stud
Dutton will handle Lenzi again if they meet just as he did at the Eastern States. I know anything can happen but in that match Lenzi couldn’t generate any offense whatsoever and Dutton seemed to either score at will or stop everything Lenzi threw out him. Grippi vs. Ruggerelio, on the other hand, is something I’m looking forward to if they meet again. Ruggerelio took many blood time-outs in their match which slowed down the pace Grippi wanted to go at and I think Joey certainly has the talent to beat him.
They dont do draws any more the tournament is seeded. People always over exaggerate section one at the state level. always have always will.
Perhaps people do get a bit delusional overall in terms of our section’s chances at the states each year, but hopefully things will change. I still remember the days of seeing Griff Powell, Mazzurco, PJ Bory, Juan Carlos Garcia, and Julius Smith win it all; you can even throw in CJ Rodriguez and that whole fiasco back in 2005. True, there are many more who failed to capture a title or even place and these guys may be the exceptions but I believe things are starting to change for the better. On paper, and that’s all it is at this point, it seems like a stronger team than in years past but we’ll have to wait and see who steps up to surprise someone (remember Morgan Carey?) and who can wrestle back strong to grab a spot on the podium.
No room for an average, let alone, bad day. Even the most likely to win, will fall if not on their game. And yet, there is always hope. Hope that this oppurtunity meets preperation on a good day…..if so we will have placers and perhaps a champ. Grippi perhaps the most likely. Lenzi is fantastic and should not be judged by one bad match. However his weight class is more difficult than Grippi. In D2 Osleeb would have to get through Quinton Murphy not to mention Tyler Marlow. While possible, not likely.
I forgot,Brundage of course has a shot. And yes there is always love for Justice Flamio who like all others will not be judged by one match(great job by Mr Stuaber). Justice has a shot when ever he is on the mat..
Dont forget about Will Carter @ 152… He was 5th last year and has been strong all season
Carter is a great wrestler i think he can win it
The Grippi Ruggerelio rematch should be great.
Realbuto has everything it takes to win states and just 1guy in his way.
Lenzi will most likely need to go through liguiri just to make finals. He will prob ger 3rd
I also think carter should be thrown into the mix, he was nursing an injury last year and still qualified for 5th in state.
GUYS, THE MOST EXCITING POTENTIAL MATCHUP WOULD HAVE TO BE FLAMIO AND STEVEN KEITH. I MEAN CMON, FIRST KEITH BEATS FLAMIO IN SEMI TWO YEARS AGO, THE FLAMIO RETURNS THE FAVOR LAST YEAR. THEN KEITH STRIKES BACK AT EASTERN STATES. CANT WAIT. LASTLY WHERE DOES HAUSER RANK AT 140?? WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM DO WELL. 5 SECTION ONE WRESTLERS IN THE FINALS. REALBOTO RODRIGUIZ, FLAMIO, GRIPPI AND BRUNDAGE. L SPENO, AND KRAMER HAVE GOOD SHOTS.
I don’t see flamio beating keith this year but he could very easily take 2nd again
There is nothing easy about the states. You have to be red hot and peaking at the right time to break through the semis and get it done in the finals. With the first year of seeding at the states it is going to be very hard on the section 1 team. I don’t see us having a number 1 seed, hopefully some 2’s and 3’s. Any place a section 1 wrestler earns will be hard fought. Good luck, peak at the right time.
Coach Rogers
Reaching the semi’s is the key, which is why those 2nd round match ups are huge.
Good luck all

JUSTIS BEATS KEITH, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. NOBODY WORKS HARDER THAN JUSTIS, nobody!
