Just got the Super 16 seedings courtesy of Tom Josephson, who runs the computer at the tournament.
The first thing I noticed was a couple of Fox Lane names missing. Before I call Joe Amuso, can anyone tell me where Luke Speno and Steven Rodrigues will be this weekend?
As far as those who will be there, 125 looks great with Justis Flamio and Mike Rose at the top. Even Jay Concepcion was runner-up at Shoreline and makes a strong No. 3 seed.
UPDATE 1: Spoke to Joe Amuso about Rodrigues and Speno. He said both guys are nursing injuries and he doesn’t want to take a chance by sending them out this weekend. And he agreed that losing two huge point scorers tightens the field considerably. I also spoke to Ardsley’s Craig Zern, whose team has been given hope. With two No. 1 seeds and two No. 2 seeds and two fewer Fox Lane studs to contend with, Ardsley could strike a blow for small schools everywhere.
UPDATE 2: A few changes were made in the seedings which have since been corrected. I have changed them below to reflect that. Throw another contender into the stacked 125 ring as Robert Martin moves up.
Here are the seeds.

i seriously think Ossining has a chance to win with the Fox Lane guys out
96- Plamento beats Davidson, Longo 3rd, 4th Speno
103 – Realbuto obviously want to see who else is on Grippi’s side he might have more trouble with the 6th than the 2 who knows
112-Srednicki beats gottfried, Grippi beats Occhipinti (middle Grippi must be happy to not be wrestling 125)
119-Pat Fay ( will be huge for Fox Lane)
125 Flamio beats Rose, Concepcion might give Rose a scare but he is sloppy at times, Rose will catch them, no surprises here, seeds are pretty much right
130- Grippi wins, Gonzales (Oss) 3rd
135- Davidson Beats Martinez (SH)
140- follow the seeds
145-Trabucco upset Longo, why not pick an upset
152- Delacruz beats Delmanaco(SH) Viento (M) 3rd
160-Brundage , did mahopac v. y’town yet? who knows the two kids stories
171- Neivart ( and i like tony’s pin prediction) Genovese 3rd (tougher opponent for Neivart, but after Beacon i think he has him figured out a little better)
189-I’ll change my mind and give it to Bauer-Moshi, but i think the Panken kid can make the final if he wrestles aggressive enough
215-Othmer gets his love, homemat advantage, he beats Scopino(M)
285- make it interesting, 1st Laporta dec Galetta, 3rd Protano forfiet Treinish
going to be interesting between Fox Lane, Ossining, Carmel, and Mahopac, if Sleepy can get Concepcion and some other lightweights to place, and win at 152/189 they will be up there, if Mahopac gets a win from Srednicki, and the other guys wrestle well they could be a threat
I like Ossining, and Carmel is growing on me, and i think Fox Lane’s kids might miss S-Rod, and Speno too much
i’d say those are pretty terrible predictions. wat about manley at 135? coming off a big win vs genta, i think he takes the 135 title. you dont even have him in the finals?
speno 4th? are you nuts lol… he mite beat planamento it will be a good match
i agree with abc also at 112 Gottfried is a stud strednicki isnt going to walk through him
yeah i would say they are pretty terrible too because i over looked one kid, Manley v. Davidson is going to be an awesome final just too bad Grippi will destroy someone because the biggest final of the night if all goes to plan Flamio v. Rose is going to be huge, Mahopac vs. Carmel, that ought to be fun.
I like the Planamento kid wrestles tough
i put Speno 4th for what i stated at the end, its not like the other kids on fox lane dont know that S-Rod, and Speno’s big brother isn’t wrestling (or cousin, i don’t know, you probably do) i think the kid loses Davidson in the semis, it effects him and he gives up a match to a gutty Ardsley kid
guys these are just my predictions, disagree all you want, im just a wrestler from the past, not Nostradamus
you can call them terrible if you want, not a lot of upsets, and seeds arent always right, it wasnt like i went out on a limb here, Planamento, Realbuto, Srednicki, Fay, Flamio, Grippi, Davidson, Hauser, (Trabucco i admitted just took an upset to mix things up) Delacruz, Brundage, Neivart, Moshi,Othmer, and Laporta…..
yeah terrible picks, i should be banned from posting, its a bunch of all-section wrestlers, some returning champs, some all-state
you agree that they are terrible? ? does anyone agree you guys are clueless ??
1)prediction |pri?dik sh ?n|
noun
a thing predicted; a forecast : a prediction that the Greeks would destroy the Persian empire.
• the action of predicting something : the prediction of future behavior.
ORIGIN mid 16th cent.: from Latin praedictio(n-), from praedicere ‘make known beforehand’ (see predict ).
a forecast- is the weather forecast always right ? not always
did anyone see the word ‘fact’ in there? i didn’t
2) terrible (without pasting a definition i think we all know what terrible means, except a couple of us apparently) terrible predictions ? that would mean i threw in a bunch of non-seeds, said flamio would lose just because he is bumping up, a terrible predictions ? i dont think so
3) im just a blogger, you aren’t supposed to agree with me, you’re supposed to think the guy you like is better, but terrible ? yeah right ? its an opinion thats all
i tihnk that davidson is going to beat speno in the semis as well.
yeah how would i be nuts? i watched Yablon beat Speno, i watched Planamento beat Yablon at Shoreline, so obviously i wouldnt be nuts.
so yeah to take 4th he loses twice, and no one gets down when they lose ? whats the chances of him wrestling an ugly consolation match, if its full consolations i think he takes 3rd, but i dont know what the format is, i havent been to a super 16 in a while
Don’t leave out little Jiminez at 96lbs I also wouldn’t rule Fox Lane out yet.
Do any body notice no body from mount vernon is seeded like all section corey scott, lennie grahm, and lamar shaw…..I think yall gona notice some changes tomorrow in da seeds
oh true i wonder if they didnt send in their info, or call it, cause im pretty sure they don’t do the meetings anymore
will they get seeded ????
152 would be interesting between DeLaCruz and Graham, see what the kid actually has, working with Brundage should help, last years sectionals was an ugly situation
How did Graff of Arlington and kafka of Suffern ranked over Wheeler of Mamaroneck? (140)Wheeler has only one loss which was Hauser. Is Cory Scott and or Ryan Tompkins certified for 140? If so they would have to be the favorites for the section 1 title if they drop down
Section 1 w/some sense,
It looks like you have stirred up the natives this evening. Perhaps I can be of some assistance. Overall , I like your predictions with two exceptions :
a. Peter Grippi(middle Grippi)was 3rd in the section at 96 last year and Jake Srednicki was 4th at 103. I like Pete over Jake in the final.
b. Sam Speno (little brother of Luke)has had a solid year and did well in Eastern States. I like him over Davidson in the semi’s.
Your pick’s for 119 & 130 are right on. Pat Fay & Joe Grippi in a cake walk.
If you have not guessed by now , I am a bleeding heart Fox Lane supporter. I can’t help myself. If Pete Grippi and Sam Speno make it to the finals , I still think Fox Lane has a shot!
If Ossining wrestles like Ossining used to…. IF! .... could be an exciting tournament
If Mahopac’s support cast backs up Flamio and Srednicki (even if he takes 2nd) they can challenge for 2nd/3rd
Sleepy and Carmel are just as dangerous, this will give a nice at who can crack top 5 at sectionals
Fox Lane wins the sections though 1. Fox Lane 2. North Rockland 3. 4. 5. (that could be answered this weekend (Ossining, Mahopac, Suffern, Sleepy Hollow, Mt. Vernon, Somers) anyone know where John Jay is going ?? anyone think they will have a single section champ ?
Anyone think he can beat Brundage? I think I saw he only lost to him by 1 point at Shoreline.
I would say 125 is the most talented weight class @ the Super 16. Many tough kids
Don’t count out JJCR at Sectionals…
cya
if anyone actually sees this, see if you can get word to those who called them “terrible”
i was pretty much right on, screwed up 96, and my upset pic was wrong, but Trabucco got to the final, and missed on 285 a little
right on 103,112 i called perfect, 119 (Fay was huge, Speno too), 125 didnt take a lot to take Flamio over Rose, 130 easy, 135 Davidson wins, and someone else posted that Manley shouldnt have beaten Martinez, i didnt see that whole match but the refs sucked all day, 140 Hauser gave me a scare, 145 mentioned above, 152 when i made my pics i forgot about Mt. Vernon because they forgot about themselves (the Scott kid, practically died on the mat, it was a disgrace that he got to win) 160 easy, 171 Clay pinned, 189 Moshi won, Panken made it to the final, 215 Othmer won just not against who i picked,285 Laporta pinned himself
