Just got back from Suffern, where the home team easily handled Ketcham 49-21. That included only one forfeit, at 96 pounds. The Mounties won seven of the first nine matches to go up 37-9.
Suffern has been missing guys to injury lately. It hurt them at the Kohl tournament, where four regulars sat. Two, Ethan Gomes (152) and Blake Ziffer (145), came back today. Gomes won by pin in the second period. Ziffer (left) decisioned his opponent 4-2 in overtime. Obviously their furloughs didn’t hurt them.
The other two injured guys, Vinny Giella and Brandon Kafka, sat today but are expected back for Counties this weekend.
Giella’s replacement at 135, Kervin Floreal (above), pinned his opponent at the 3:26 mark. He was trying to work an arm bar when he heard his coaches calling for a cradle. He sounded almost surprised that it worked so easily. Floreal has wrestled as high as 140 this year, but will be at 130 at Counties.
(UPDATE: You can read my story here.)

Nice job Jake…Anything from Edgemont yet? Curious about the Genta / Manly Aslanian / Longo matches
jake, any details on kramer spano match. kramer beat him 10-0 last year i think.
abc…Is that right? Yesterday was much closer. Basically Spano got Kramer’s right arm twisted way behind his back to pick up the only three back points of the match. Kramer started yelling in obvious pain. Apparently he’d injured his shoulder the day before in practice. Spano’s wrenching really did a number on it. Kramer was walking around after with an ice pack, wincing in pain. So the loss was definitely secondary to the status of his shoulder.
nice job for the heavy weights, they sometimes get overlooked-they have beem doing a heck of a job for the team!
