Longwood High School from Long Island is in first place after the first day of the Mid-Hudson Valley Wrestling tournament at Arlington High School.
Mahopac and Ossining finished in fifth and sixth place, respectively, for the day. Action resumes tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.
Mahopac’s Max Bochmeyer ( 103), Jake Frednicki (112), Justis Flamio (125), Frank Grecco (160) and Andrew Scopino (215) and Ossining’s James Brundage (160), Clayton Neivert (171) and Daniel Monteiro (285) will face off in the semifinals for the opportunity to compete in the finals at 2:30 p.m.

At 96 pounds, Jimmy Duckham of Arlington will face Jorge Chardon of Highland in the semifinals. Duckham decisioned John Hodes of Rondout Valley, 6-0 and Chardon pinned Paul Caruso of Mahopac in 1:17.
At 130 pounds, Frank Cabibbo of Ketcham will face Mike Lopez of Rocky Point in one semifinal, while Brian Barry of Arlington will face Patrick Jennings of Longwood in the other. Cabibbo decisioned Cornwall’s Bill Long, 4-3, while Barry won by forfeit over Mike Leavey of Baldwin.
Cabbibo’s brother, Andrew qualified for the 125-pound semifinal, where he will face Longwood’s Johnathan Timpone. Andrew Cabbibo pinned Arlington’s Angel Santos in 1:32 to qualify.
Local duo advances at 171
In the 171-pound weight class, Red Hook’s Ivan Carlson and John Jay’s Steve Moody are on opposite sides of the semifinal bracket. Carlson will face Ossining’s Clayton Neivert by virtue of his 12-4 decision over Rondout Valley’s Andrew Tully. Moody decisioned Highland’s Rob Tracz, 8-4 and will face Longwood’s William Parks in the semifinals.
At 189, Arlington’s Chris Cuzzola and John Jay’s Todd Mueckenheim are on opposite sides of the bracket. Cuzzola pinned Highland’s Mike McCabe in 2:53, putting him in a semifinal against Newburgh’s Marcus Spearman. Mueckenheim decisioned Andrew Pankin of Ossining, putting him in a semifinal opposite Kingston’s Mike McGrath.
At 140, Dan Graff of Arlington will face David Wright of Red Hook in the semifinals. Graff decisioned Nick Puoplo of Mahopac, 13-1 and Wright decisioned Marco Nunoz of Newburgh, 9-8.
Steve DiPalermo of John Jay will face Rocky Point’s Anthony Volpe in the 145-pound semifinal. DiPalermo pinned Cornwall’s Gus Figueroa in 3:16 to punch his ticket to the semifinals.
At 215, Collin Desens of Arlington will face Newburgh’s John Carey in the semifinals. Desens pinned Ossining’s Daniel Panken in 2:36 to qualify for the finals.
Through one day of competition, Longwood of Suffolk County, Long Island is in first place with 124.5 points. Arlington and Cornwall are tied for second with 115 points apiece. Ketcham is eighth with 69 points, John Jay 10th with 60.5 points, Red Hook 11th with 36 points and Highland 12th with 28 points.
