I don’t know about anyone else, but this three-week wait until the State Championships is ridiculous!
I’m only a fan and I’m climbing the walls, waiting for this. I could just imagine what the wrestlers are coaches are going through. They all must be suffering from ‘wrestling-room’ fever.
All the best to the Section 1 wrestlers and the Fordham Prep wrestlers, especially the seniors, at this weekend’s State Championships. This is a veteran team Section 1 is sending to Rochester so many of them know what to expect.

me too Tony. Me too
Tony,
Any chance you could post updates on your blog from the tournament?
Thanks again for your great coverage this year.
tony i know exactly what you’re feeling, i am not leaving my computer this weekend and i will have every single tab opened on my browser with every wrestling forum opened up, refreshing every 15 minutes. 4 days until a champ is crowned!
Joe M. and Shoebox –
I will attempt to update my blog at states. It all depends on my wireless card and if it will work at the Blue Cross Arena. If not, I will update the both days after I file my story.
Shoebox, from your mouth to God’s ears in regards to a champ (Section 1 ) being crowned.
Tony and Shoebox,
Whats the website to follow the matches and keep informed with the results? How fast and how often do the results get posted?
Just dying to “get it on!”
Tony, thanks for all you do!
Why is there a 3 week wait every year? It must be hard on the wrestlers because their teams are no longer in place providing support, practice partners etc.
gryphon—-I’ll be sending text messages with live updates from the tournament. Probably not much play-by-play, just results, with a focus on (but not limited to) matches involving Section 1 kids. A few dozen locals and a couple of upstaters have already signed up. If you want to be on the list, just send an email with your name and cell # to nyhswrestling@gmail.com
Jeff
post season, there isn’t a 3 week wait every year. it’s usually 2 weeks.
Thanks Jeff…....I’m on your list!
Tony, .....THIS 3 WEEKS IS CRAZY !! Whoever thought of this schedule was obviously not thinking of the kids. I think section one is ready though and will place several wrestlers this year. See you in Rochester.
hey why isnt my reply going through when i post links?
Good Luck to all the wrestling Men.
Steve Lovas
Good luck to all the wrestlers…remember seniors this is it you have to leave everything out on that mat you cant have any regrets and dont think just wrestle
Tony-
Do you think that if the weather is bad, the tournament start time will be delayed at all?.. Because ive been keeping myself with the weather here and in rochester and its gona rain/ snow in both on saturday, and im leaving by plane early that morning at 8
from what they said this will not be cancelled or delayed.
either you make it or you dont.
Lets go Sean PAul
ahh,
The forcast for Rochester is up to one inch on Friday night. Also, snow showers the entire weekend. I can tell you from flying and driving there that that type of snow is not even considered snow. It is not like Westchester, it would take a major storm to slow things down up there.
Hats off to my new found friend Coach Swertfager for opening up his program to the rest of the section. He single handily pushed all section one kids to work together and broke down some of the walls that has split section 1 for years. I am proud to consider myself a coach on the section 1 staff with big Bill. He has even convinced me that our colors are Columbia Blue not baby blue!
The wrestlers have worked very hard. Day one of practice was the same old your from there and I won’t work with you. By yesterday alot of that was gone, it was awesome to see. This group is going to do some good things, remember it is just a start, whatever we do this year is just the beginning of Columbia Blue becoming a force in a very tough NYS. The coaches of section 1 have done their job, the wrestlers are prepared as well as they are going to be. Good luck to all of the section 1 wrestlers!
Thats funny, I thought you rated the workouts at JJCR a “D” in your email to some people, must have changed your mind.
Lets see if the boys can do better than last year. They are all headed up on a long bus ride. In less than 19 hours they will be competing for their dreams of state titles, too bad their still not checked into their rooms. I guess some things never change. No sense getting up there real early. Even better bar the guy from going up on their own. Thats the best idea yet. Make sure they are stuck on a 6 hr bus ride, then make then sit around a hotel for 2 hrs before they can check in, then workout, then eat then cut weight. Great timing, if you are a heavyweight and don’t have any weight to cut, but the kids who need to workout twice to make weight are being hurt.
hey, if anybody is interested, the brackets will be updated at the head table at the tournament
